Ever since this Robert Trent Jones layout first opened in 1981 it has always been considered as one of Portugal’s best. This is a fun course to reach from Lisbon, with the final stretch of the short journey requiring a brief ferry-ride from Setubal to the pencil thin-peninsula that Troia Golf Course calls home. Almost totally surrounded by water with the accompanying sea breezes, this is a course with many links-like attributes. The course looks tighter than it actually is, but the hazards are in clear view and well located, especially the deep, hungry bunkers that provide a stern defense for the greens that are often small and well contoured. Troia is a great challenge for the better player and an exciting test for the rest of us.
