Stay in a Deluxe Country House Hotel and Play the 4 Championship Courses in East Lothian, near Edinburgh, without taking a whole week off work.
Close to Edinburgh, yet a million miles away from the bustle of city life, East Lothian is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Day 1
Arrive Scotland
Spend 4 nights staying at the luxury country house hotel Greywalls Hotel & Chez Roux Restaurant in East Lothian and play North Berwick, Muirfield, Gullane No. 1 and Dunbar.
Greywalls Hotel is set in a lovely country house adjacent to prestigious Muirfield Course and a few minutes walk into central Gullane. This Edwardian home was designed in 1901 by the renowned architect Sir Edward Lutyens and the gardens were laid out by his imaginative partner, Gertrude Jekyll. King Edward VII used to stay at Greywalls and admire the views across the Firth and south to the Lammermuir Hills, immortalized by Sir Walter Scott. The paneled library offers guests warmth and comfort in which to relax and enjoy real fires and discreet, first-class service.
Play North Berwick West Links
North Berwick West Links is a pure seaside links of the highest orders with a wealth of charm and tradition, located only 24 miles east of Edinburgh. There is good reason why it is used as a qualifying course whenever The Open is held at Muirfield and even greater reasons why two of its holes – the 14th and 15th, are the most mimicked by golf architects the world over, a practice that has gone on for the better part of a century. The strong character of the layout is apparent from the beginning with three opening par 4′s that test and tease, just to see if you are up to the challenge that lies ahead. And that challenge is an eclectic mix of hazards, tests and obstacles that require a mastery of every club in the bag – the reward will be a golfing experience to be found nowhere else. There are blind holes and drives over stone walls that cross fairways; there are burns to avoid and shots to be made over the bay and skirting the beach. There are gullies to steer clear of and greens perilously perched on the edge of the course that seem about ready to slip into the sea.
Day 2
Play Muirfield Course
Built in 1891, Muirfield is a scrupulously honest but demanding test where the dangers and hazards are in open view for all to see. Having remained a regular venue for the British Open, Muirfield is one of the most demanded stops for all golfers while visiting Scotland.
Day 3
Play Gullane No. 1 Course
Located only 18 miles east of Edinburgh, Gullane is regularly a qualifying course for the British Open. Carved into the ancient links turf, pot bunkers, wispy grasses and smooth-running greens provides a unique challenge for the serious golfer. Add to that the fabulous views across to Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth, Fife and beyond and you have one of the world’s most cherished golfing experiences.
Day 4
Play Dunbar Course
Founded in 1856, Dunbar Golf Course is a very natural links course following the contours of the shoreline and laid out on a fairly narrow tract of land. Without doubt, this is one of the most attractive courses on the East coast with splendid views out across the sea.
Day 5
Depart Scotland
