Opened in 1923, Sunningdale New is perhaps a bit more rugged than the Old, a bit more masculine, if you will…… This is rich and handsome and challenging golf, Harry Colt in top form.

The opening drive has to be up the left side in order not to sacrifice length, since balls on any other line run sideways down the slope. The tee shot on the 2nd, the first of five short holes, has little margin for error, where the pin is tucked on the stop shelf of a tapering green. The penalties for missing many of the greens can be alarming, and this is, without doubt, one of its main features.  Sunningdale has enormous variety in the shots it demands, especially on the last eight.
